Thoughts on September 23rd
They call themselves your friends
They say that they know you
They say that they care about you
However, you always wonder if it’s true
When you need them the most are they there for you?
Do they know when you are hurting?
Even though no words are spoken
You are surrounded by people, yet you feel alone
You feel misunderstood
They call themselves your friends
But they don’t see your sadness
They say that they know you
However, they don’t understand your tears
They say that they care about you
But they don’t comfort you when you need it
What does it mean to be someone’s friend?
Doesn’t it mean standing by their side through the good and bad?
Doesn’t it mean giving them a shoulder to lean on when their sad?
Doesn’t it mean listening to them whine and complain?
Doesn’t it mean handing them a tissue when the tears just won’t stop?
Doesn’t it mean seeing the things they don’t necessarily say?
Doesn’t it mean being there wholeheartedly and unconditionally?
To be someone’s true friend is worth more than life itself
I sit here feeling sad, mad, hurt, and very alone.
I’m waiting for someone to look past the surface
To what’s inside of me
I want to feel accepted
I want to be able to express my thoughts
I want someone to know me
I want someone to care about me
I want someone to understand me
Most of all I want someone to love me unconditionally
Again, I ask you… What does it mean to be someone’s friend?
